Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV

The Fraunhofer Institute for Process Engineering and Packaging IVV has many years of experience in the processing and extraction of proteins, dietary fibers and secondary plant substances from a wide variety plant raw materials. In numerous research projects, processes have been developed and validated on a laboratory and pilot scale for the fractionation of legumes and oilseeds such as rape seed and press cake. The process equipment required for the production of proteins, dietary fibers and secondary plant substances is available at Fraunhofer IVV in different scales between 2 kg/h and 500 kg/h depending on the task. In addition to the dry processing of raw materials (peeling, sifting, flocculation, grinding), aggregates for extraction with common organic solvents and aqueous systems up to an extraction volume of 2 m³ are available on a laboratory and pilot plant scale for batch extractions. In addition, Fraunhofer IVV has long been engaged in characterizing the properties of plant ingredients and their application in non-food and food applications. In addition to instrumental analytical methods, a number of formulations are available for assessing the applicability of novel plant chemicals in the food sector as well as in cosmetic emulsions and technical applications.
