Thywissen was founded in 1839 in Neuss as an oil mill and oil trading company. Today, 175 years later, this area is still the core competence of the company.
During this time, various areas were operated such as a paint factory, a soap factory, another oil mill with a biodiesel plant in Verdun (France) and malthouses. The malthouses, which were operated jointly in equal shares with Schill, were sold to the Australian company Graincorp in 2011 as the largest German malt group. Today, in addition to oil and feed, glycerin / biodiesel (Marl) and malt flours (Hürth) are produced and sold.
The company is specialized in the B2B sector, which means that the customers are mainly to be found in the processing industry. There, it is almost exclusively well-known companies from the food industry who, in addition to our product, also appreciate the service and flexibility of a medium-sized family-run business, now in the sixth generation. But we are also a reliable partner for the oleochemical sector and in the energy sector. Thywissen achieved a turnover of € 1.5 billion in 2013 and currently employs approx. 110 people
